Harborside ACT Prep
If you are planning to go to college after high school, Harborside Academy might be the right school for you!
At Harborside, we are very proud of the partnership that we have established with our local Sylvan Learning Center. Our staff has worked closely with the owners at Sylvan to establish a three year plan to help prepare our juniors to be ready for the ACT test.
The program starts during our freshman year and continues through grade 11. To start with, all 9th and 10th grade Harborside students take the practice ACT Explore and Plan tests. Results from this test are shared with students and parents. In fact, our teachers work with our students so that they are able to verbally report their strengths and areas in need of improvement to their families.
Freshman and Sophomores also spend one CREW period per week working on ACT prep skills. John Sykora (Owner of the Kenosha Sylvan Center) has planned with our core area regarding ACT prep in 9th and 10th grade. As a result, most Tuesday CREW periods are dedicated to preparing for this important test. Mr. Sykora has provided our teachers with excellent preparatory work to use on a weekly basis so that our students can practice these skills here at school and at home. Our goal is to create strong skills within our students so that when they reach their junior year the Sylvan staff can help add the final polishing touches through their "Ivy Prep" program.
Sylvan's Ivy Prep program is typically a several hundred dollar program offered at their center. It is an amazing program that has helped a lot of Kenosha students to achieve their college admission goals. Through this one of a kind partnership, Harborside families are able to access this evening program during their junior year for a fraction of that cost. A family contribution, matched with Harborside dollars, pays for this important training. Juniors enrolled in the Ivy Prep program start meeting in small groups during the month of March. Our goal is to meet 12 times ending approximately 1 week before the April ACT test date. We believe that our 3 year program will provide our students the support that they need to be successful on this very important test.
Attached to this page you will find the registration forms and a flyer that was supplied to our 1st class of Juniors. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us through our school office.
