ANNOUNCEMENTS for Thursday, April 23, 2015 - Today is an B Day

Mr. Nepper's CREW is hosting a fashion show as a fund raiser for cancer research and awareness. The show is called Surviving in Style. Students can be a part of the fashion show as a contestant or just come and watch. Donations will be taken at the door. The Surviving in Style Fashion Show will be held on Friday night, May 8th, starting at 6:30 pm. There are four categories that students can participate in: Sportswear, Prom/Formal, Decades or Cosplay. The registration fee is $3.00 per category or $10.00 for all four categories.Registration forms will be on the table in front of the office or in an envelope outside the auditorium doors on the second floor. The registration forms must be turned in with the registration fees to Mr. Nepper no later than Monday, April 27th

The sophomore class is hosting there first annual 5k Veteran Honor Run/Walk on Saturday May 9th at Library Park. The cost to participate is $25 and children 10 and under are free. All proceeds will be used to purchase a Memorial Statue to honor our local veterans. Come out and support this great cause to say “Thank You” to all those who have served our country. More information and registration can be picked up in the office or on Harborside’s website.

Attention junior and seniors: Harborside’s Prom “A Night of Enchantment” is May 2nd this year!! Tickets are on sale now and will be sold through Monday April 27th! Permission slips are available outside the main office.

Our next Market Day pick up will be after school next Thursday, April 30th, in the first floor cafeteria. 10% of these grocery sales come back to our school, so check out what they have available. There are new products added every month. Pickup at another school, or GFS, is simple to arrange when you order at Marketday.com. Orders must be placed by 10 PM on Saturday April 25th.

Ms. Henkel’s students that had work in the district wide art show can see her before or after school this week to pick up their matted art work.

Attention 9th and 10th Grade!! Don't forget to purchase your tickets for the Brewer game on May 5th. The cost is $20 and includes ticket, bus, and dinner. Tickets are on a first come basis. If you need another copy of the permission slip we have extras in the office.

Any seniors working on bully prevention project with Mr. Buschmann need to meet with him during lunch or after school in Rm 344 today.

Each Tuesday, just for fun, a group of Harborside students go tubing together after school. Here is a picture of Mr. Sturino and some of our students participating during 'tubing Tuesdays'. You are half way to college!  ----  This picture shows our 6th grade as they tour UW Milwaukee during our 2015 Career and College Readiness week. 7th & 8th graders visited other area colleges on the same day. Duane Sturino's Harborside Academy class was among those honored as this year's humanitarians at Gateway Technical College's 21st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. Harborside students visit Chicago. Harborside Seniors on the way to the post office. Harborside teachers and graduates waiting for the subway in Boston Massachusetts while attending the 2014 Expeditionary Learning national conference. -- Harborside staff and graduates presented three different workshops while at this conference. The conference was attended by over 1,200 educators from all over the country. Harborside 6th grade students, teachers and families share their writing at a recent celebration of learning. Harborside tenth grade teachers planning with local veterans for the spring expedition on conflict. Harborside orchestra students perform for local veterans at Kenosha's Hero Café. Harborside and LakeView theater students performed Sleeping Beauty before a full house on March 26. Congrats to Mr. Kotlewski and all performers! Pictured is Mrs. Underwood and former olympian Bonnie Blair. Each year, Bonnie and the Alzheimer's Association honor one organization as volunteers. This year, they choose to recognize the Harborside senior team for their work throughout our 'Senior to Senior' expedition. Our school is proud of this award! Harborside Academy 12th graders marched to the post office to take care of last minute college applications and forms. County Executive Jim Krueser addresses the Harborside senior class while they were in the Kenosha post office during our first March to the Post Office event. Harborside music and theater students travel to Chicago to see Wicked. Ms. Henkel's CREW built and installed this 'Little Free Library' outside of Frank Elementary School. Students from Ms. Henkel's CREW dedicated the library with the kindergarten students at Frank. Students and adults in the neighborhood have been encouraged to stop by and borrow a book whenever they want to read. Way to go Henkel CREW! Students and staff at Harborside Academy gathered together outside for a picture to show their appreciation and gratitude to all veterans. Students and staff held up American flags and banner thanking veterans for their service. Jake G. and Mr. Gottfredsen are pictured here working together in Mexico at a local veterinary hospital. Harborside Student Ambassadors meet with Melissa Roussin from the Rwandan Schools Project. Melissa is the co-founder of a grade 6-12 Expeditionary Learning School in Rwanda. She visited Harborside on October 9th to learn about our school. Harborside students helping at the Hoop House at Wilson School. Harborside raised garden beds at XTen Industries. Gardening/Aqua ponics at KTEC school. (KTEC is a gardening partner with Harborside.) Seniors volunteering at the Alzheimer's Association Walk at UW Parkside.
